AQWA, founded in the 1970’s, is the acronym for the Aquarium of Western Australia, which showcases the various regions of the country. Each display celebrates a different coast. The Southern coast is home to leafy sea dragons and colorful sponges; the Perth coast tanks hold moon jellies and cuttlefish; the far north is all coral lagoons and blue spotted stingrays; the so-called shipwreck coast features 12-foot-long sharks, huge stingrays and turtles swimming over limestone reefs.

The newest display displays animals that sting, stab, poison, bite or strangle their prey. These include stonefish other deadly fish that might make you want to stay on the beach and out of the water!
