The Aquarium is, first and foremost, dedicated to local aquatic life. Two of its permanent exhibits, Wetlands on the Edge and Coastal Freshwater, are filled with local fish and plants. Daily programs allow visitors to interact with the animals and their keepers more closely: Snack with the Sharks and Close Encounters Feeding are just a few of the daily offerings.

Founded in 1976, the three aquaria of North Carolina are dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of local estuaries, rivers, streams, and ocean environments.
