Since it opened in 1934 by the Works Project Administration as an open-air exhibit, the Aquarium has been a center of marine and public life.

Daily tours include a stop at the shark tank for feeding time; afterwards, visitors can pet a live shark. The tank also holds parrotfish, grouper, barracuda and moray eels.
