[edit] Overview

Although not wildly colorful, these current-loving West African cichlids are much-liked by many aquarists who have kept them.

Steatocranus comes from the Greek, meaning "fat head," while tinanti suggests an elongated forehead, apt for a species with a big mouth and droll appearance.

Family: Cichlidae

Other common name(s):

Habitat: Rheophilic fishes such as this are found in fast-moving streams with rocky bottoms. Adding a powerhead to the aquarium will help mimic their native conditions.

Minimum aquarium size: 114 L (30 gal)

Water: Freshwater 25 °C (298 K, 77 °F) - 27 °C (300 K, 81 °F)

General swimming level: Bottom.

[edit] Feeding

Omnivore. Offer a mixed diet of dried rations, sinking pellets, live or frozen blackworms and bloodworms.

[edit] Aquarium Compatibility

Relatively peaceful.

[edit] Special Care

This species will do best with well-filtered, well-oxygenated water, the latter easily provided by adding a powerhead to the aquarium.
