Formerly known as Stanley Pool, Malebo Pool is a famous circular body of water in the Zaire (Congo) River, between Kinshasha (capitol of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire) and Brazzaville (capitol of the Republic of the Congo).
It is 35 km (22 miles) in length, 23 km (14 mi) wide with depths of 3-10 m (10-40 ft). The lake is dominated by a large island, known as M'Bamou or Bamu Island.
A number of African cichlids are collected here. See Stanley Pool for larger aerial image.
