[edit] Overview

This is a great display fish because of its boldness and brilliant coloration and is ideally suited to the reef aquarium. It is rarely seen in most marine shops, but is occasionally exported from the Cook Islands.

Family: Pomacentridae

Other common name(s):

Native range:

Habitat: Inhabits passes and outer reef slopes.

Maximum length: 9 cm (4 in)

Minimum aquarium size: 76 L (20 gal)

Water: Marine 24 °C (297 K, 75 °F) - 28 °C (301 K, 82 °F)

[edit] Feeding

Meaty foods, including finely shredded frozen seafood, mysid shrimp, frozen preparations, pigment-enriched flake food, and Cyclop-eeze. Feed twice a day.

[edit] Aquarium Compatibility

It can be quite aggressive toward more passive tankmates, including small anthias, more passive demoiselles and chromises, and dart gobies. Once acclimated, it will hold its own with moderately aggressive tankmates. Keep only one per tank unless your aquarium is extra large, in which case you might try a pair.

[edit] Notes

It often suffers from shipping stress and as a result often has trouble acclimating to its new aquarium home. Professional fishkeeper Jim Walters suggests keeping this species in the dark for a couple of days, which seems to facilitate acclimation.
