Blackbar Chromis
From Microcosm Aquarium Explorer
[edit] Overview
This is a terrific aquarium fish—colorful and durable. This species will spend most of its time hovering near the substrate.
Family: Pomacentridae
Other common name(s):
- Black-bar Puller
Native range:
Habitat: Inhabits coral-rich areas of clear lagoon and seaward reefs. Occurs singly or in small groups and remains close to thickly branching coral shelter.
Maximum length: 5 cm (2 in)
Minimum aquarium size: 38 L (10 gal)
Water: Marine 24 °C (297 K, 75 °F) - 28 °C (301 K, 82 °F)
[edit] Feeding
Meaty foods, including finely shredded frozen seafood, mysid shrimp, frozen preparations, pigment-enriched flake food, and Cyclop-eeze. Feed twice per day.
[edit] Aquarium Compatibility
This species is not very aggressive toward heterospecifics. It will fight with conspecifics if the tank is too small, so keep just one per tank unless your aquarium is of moderate size (e.g., 75 gal. [285 L]), in which case you can keep a pair or a small group, although this species does not form large shoals like some of the other chromises. It is prone to being picked on by more aggressive damselfishes and other pugnacious tankmates (e.g., dottybacks).
