Citharinidae
From Microcosm Aquarium Explorer
[edit] Overview
Also known as African characins or African fin-eating tetras, these interesting fishes were formerly classified in the Family Characidae.
Most common in the aquarium trade are members of the genus Distichodus, which can fit nicely into a community of fishes that grow large and rambunctious. As they mature, they can become aggressive and males of the same species may fight incessantly.
