[edit] Overview

Sinuous, sometimes strikingly colored, and with a beaklike nose equipped with a fleshy "feeler" appendage, the spiny eels are unusual and always attract attention in the aquarium.

Unfortunately, they tend to be shy and nocturnal and will eat small fishes when available.

Although snakelike, they are harmless to humans.
