Overview

This is an attractive and durable aquarium fish that readily adapts to captive life if provided with adequate hiding places. It is easily distinguished by blue, brown, or black spots on its flared pectoral fins.

Can be kept in a shallow- or deep-water reef aquarium. Warning: Venomous spines.

Feeding

Meaty foods, including marine fish and crustacean flesh. Live grass shrimp or feeder fish may be needed to initiate feeding. Feed 3-4 times a week. Do not feed with goldfish or freshwater feeder fish.

Aquarium Compatibility

When keeping more than one specimen, provide various shelter sites so that each individual can find its own refuge. Although it feeds on crustaceans in the wild, it will eat any tankmate small enough to fit into its mouth. Safe with corals, clams, large crustaceans.
