SPECKLED, DECORATED, ORNATE GOBIES

The members of this genus are often nicely patterned and are proficient at turning the upper half inch of the sand bed. They are less likely to bury corals near the aquarium bottom than the more aggressive sand-sifters.

They feed mainly on tiny crustaceans that live on or near the sand surface. In nature, they hide under rocks and rubble or among mangrove roots.

They will behave aggressively toward conspecifics and congeners and may even pick on other smaller sand-dwelling gobies. Keep only one per tank unless the aquarium is larger. It may jump out of an open aquarium.
