EARBAR GOBIES

These small, distinctively marked gobies feed off the surface of the sand substrate—although they will do some surface turning, they are not very proficient at it. Their diet consists mainly of diatoms, detritus, and small crustaceans.

The smaller species will do well in the nano-reef aquarium. Keep one per tank unless the aquarium is larger as they will fight if crowded. They are likely to be picked on by larger, more aggressive benthic fishes, including hawkfishes and sand perches. They are also potential prey for the fish-eating Green Brittle Star (Ophiarachna incrassata) and carpet anemones. Provide them with a ledge over the sand bottom under which to hide.
