Common Characteristics: delicate, nearly transparent, typically pelagic marine animals that drift in coastal and oceanic waters; bioluminescent.

Noteworthy Behaviors: propel themselves with eight rows of fused cilia or combs (the ctenes); predatory on other forms of plankton.
