Pastel Green Wrasse

A beautiful member of this genus. Scott W. Michael

[edit] Overview

This is one of the more common members of the Halichoeres genus and a very attractive fish. In the wild, this fish will often swim among the tentacles of less lethal sea anemones and associate closely with the longtentacled plate coral (Heliofungia actiniformis), a relationship that might be fostered in the aquarium.

Family: Labridae

Other common name(s):

  • Green Coris
  • Black-blotched Wrasse
  • Dark-blotch Wrasse
  • Java Wrasse

Native range:

Habitat: This species lives in shallow protected coral reefs and nearby silty sand and rubble bottoms.

Maximum length: 19 cm (7 in)

Minimum aquarium size: 209 L (55 gal)

Water: Marine 24 °C (297 K, 75 °F) - 28 °C (301 K, 82 °F)

[edit] Feeding

Meaty foods, including finely shredded frozen seafood, mysid shrimp, frozen preparations, and pigment-enriched flake food. Feed at least twice a day.

[edit] Aquarium Compatibility

It will not harm sessile invertebrates, but it is a threat to worms, small snails, and crustaceans. It has been reported to eat flatworms and pyramidellid snails. Keep only one per tank (although if you have a large tank, you may be able to house two females together or a male and female).
