[edit] Overview

This is a wonderful, colorful fish for the reef aquarium, but careful acclimation is critical. It may hide for days or even weeks when first introduced.

Family: Gobiidae

Other common name(s):

  • Yasha Goby

Native range:

Habitat: In the wild, this fish is usually found in pairs in the outer reef slopes, hovering above the sandy bottom at the entrance to its burrow.

Maximum length: 5 cm (2 in)

Minimum aquarium size: 38 L (10 gal)

Water: Marine 24 °C (297 K, 75 °F) - 28 °C (301 K, 82 °F)

[edit] Feeding

Meaty foods, including finely shredded frozen seafood, mysid shrimp, frozen preparations, pigment-enriched flake food, and Cyclop-eeze. Feed at least once a day or preferably twice a day.

[edit] Aquarium Compatibility

Do not keep it with aggressive tankmates like pugnacious damsels, dottybacks, larger jawfishes, hawkfishes, pygmy angels, aggressive wrasses, sand perches, and larger, scrappier shrimp gobies (e.g., Cryptocentrus spp.). This species may be evicted from its burrow by larger jawfishes, while substrate-disturbing species may collapse its shrimp partner’s underground architecture. More than one can be housed in the same tank (75 gal. [285 L] or larger).

[edit] Special Care

New individuals are prone to jumping, so it is best if the tank is in an area with minimal human traffic.
