Twolined Dottyback

A handsome little species suitable for the reef aquarium. Scott W. Michael

[edit] Overview

This little dottyback is a worthy addition to the reef tank. It is especially suited to smaller systems or to larger aquariums that have communities of smaller or similarly sized fishes.

Family: Pseudochromidae

Other common name(s):

  • Double-striped Dottyback

Native range:

Habitat: Found in rich coral reefs and coastal reef slopes.

Maximum length: 6.9 cm (3 in)

Minimum aquarium size: 76 L (20 gal)

Water: Marine 24 °C (297 K, 75 °F) - 28 °C (301 K, 82 °F)

[edit] Feeding

Meaty foods, including finely shredded frozen seafood, mysid shrimp, frozen preparations, pigment-enriched flake food, and Cyclop-eeze. Feed every other day in a reef tank.

[edit] Aquarium Compatibility

It has been known to attack and kill smaller fishes and eat ornamental shrimps. If placed in a large tank with plenty of hiding places, it will often ignore its tankmates, unless they venture too close to its preferred hiding places.

[edit] Notes

Juveniles lack yellow coloration on the head.
