Although the typical specimens seen in aquarium stores are small and attractive, these Asian fishes become large and greedy predators.

Many require brackish water, and are definitely not suitable for a tropical community setting.

Habitat: Brackishwaters in estuaries, bays and lagoons. Will venture upstream in freshwater rivers and lakes.

Maximum length: 30 cm (12 in)

Water: Brackish 22 °C (295 K, 72 °F) - 26 °C (299 K, 79 °F)

General swimming level: All levels.

Carnivore. Feeds on crustaceans, insects, smaller fishes.

A predatory fish not to be trusted with any fish or ornamental crustacean that might fit into its jaws. House with other large fishes.

Extra filtration capacity is needed for large predatory species.
