Tetraodontidae

Tetraodon fluviatilis, Topaz Pufferfish (freshwater). Neil Hepworth
[edit] Overview
The puffers are primarily saltwater species, but some are found in brackish and freshwaters. The 12 freshwater species are from south Asia and the Congo River basin.
Puffers have strong, fused teeth and can be formidable tankmates for smaller fishes and invertebrates.
The viscera of some species carries tetraodotoxin, a potentially lethal poison responsible for several deaths of Japanese sushi-eaters each year.
