Oblique-lined Dottyback
From Microcosm Aquarium Explorer
[edit] Overview
The Opaque-lined Dottyback is a great reef aquarium species, provided that certain vulnerable tankmates are excluded. It is less likely to be a problem in a large tank with plenty of hiding places.
Family: Pseudochromidae
Other common name(s):
- McCulloch's Dottyback
Native range:
Maximum length: 7.4 cm (3 in)
Minimum aquarium size: 76 L (20 gal)
Water: Marine 24 °C (297 K, 75 °F) - 28 °C (301 K, 82 °F)
[edit] Feeding
Meaty foods, including finely shredded frozen seafood, mysid shrimp, frozen preparations, pigment-enriched flake food, and Cyclop-eeze. Feed every other day in a reef tank.
[edit] Aquarium Compatibility
This dottyback will attack ornamental shrimps and, like many in this family, it may bully smaller, more docile fishes. It is also more likely to attack other dottybacks, grammas, and red-colored fishes (e.g., cardinalfishes). It can be kept in male-female pairs, but only in a tank of 100 gallons [380 L] or more.
[edit] Notes
If you succeed in acquiring a pair, there is a good chance they will spawn (if you can keep the male from killing the female).
