Overview

These are African catfishes with large adipose fins (the usually insignificant fin between the dorsal and tail fins).

They are known as "squeakers" by local African peoples for the sounds they make when taken from the water. When netted, they often produce squeaking noises.

Captive care: Generally easy to care for, but some species are too large for small community tanks.

Feeding: Omnivores. Will take all manner of meaty fare, Spirulina flakes, pellets, frozen and live foods, especially worms. Black worms have successfully been used to condition breeding pairs.
