These are armored South American catfishes, of which the popular "Pleco" species are best known.
There are many species either unnamed or in taxonomic limbo, and these are given "L" numbers to distinguish them. The fish above is identified as L027 7.
Loricariidae is the largest family of catfishes, with six subfamilies, 92 genera, and more than 684 species.
Classification of this family is constantly changing, and many new species await recognition.
