[edit] Overview

This species has subtle beauty and is relatively docile, usually doing well in a reef aquarium with a peaceful fish community.

Family: Pomacentridae

Other common name(s):

  • Pink Demoiselle
  • Pink Damselfish

Native range:

Habitat: Found in coastal to outer reef crests to depths of about 20m. Occurs solitarily or in groups in reef margins and upper seaward slopes subject to mild surge.

Maximum length: 7 cm (3 in)

Minimum aquarium size: 38 L (10 gal)

Water: Marine 24 °C (297 K, 75 °F) - 28 °C (301 K, 82 °F)

[edit] Feeding

Meaty foods, including finely shredded frozen seafood, mysid shrimp, frozen preparations, pigment-enriched flake food, and Cyclop-eeze. Feed twice a day.

[edit] Aquarium Compatibility

Relatively docile; if housed in smaller tanks, C. rex may pick on smaller tankmates. In contrast, this fish is likely to be picked on by dottybacks, other damselfishes, large wrasses, sand perches, and triggerfishes. In a larger tank, pairs or small groups can be housed together.

[edit] Special Care

Provide it with plenty of hideouts.

[edit] Notes

The color of the King Demoiselle is somewhat variable. Those in the population around Palau have a white body with a bluish head. In other locations, the head is gray to purple, while the rest of the body and fins are orangish.
