Oxycirrhites typus, Longnose Hawkfish. Scott W. Michael

[edit] Overview

The hawkfishes are wonderful aquarium inhabitants, bringing beauty and personality to any system. Because they lack a swim bladder, they spend more time perching on substrate or corals than they do swimming.

They are hardy, easily fed and fit well into most reef aquariums. As ambush predators, they will eat ornamental crustaceans and small fishes and therefore must be placed with tankmates that are large enough to escape predation.
