Batrachoididae
From Microcosm Aquarium Explorer
[edit] Overview
Like their terrestrial namesakes, the toadfishes are well-camouflaged, drably colored, and well designed as ambush predators that lie in wait, ready to explode into action when prey comes within reach.
Males are distinguished by their ability to "sing" to attract breeding partners, emitting a humming vibration from their swim bladders.
They are mostly marine, but some species are found in brackishwater and others in freshwater.
