Overview
A family that includes the largest freshwater snails known. One, the Golden Apple Snail, is a popular and harmless aquarium species. Others are cultivated as escargot for human consumption, and some have become invasive pests in Florida, Louisiana, Hawaii, and Southeast Asia.
They are mostly found in tropical and subtropical environments and are capable of surviving episodes of drought.
