Simple Rules for Avoiding Unnecessary Health Problems

  1. Select the species you keep carefully—not all species deal with stress in the same way. If you are new to aquarium keeping, try to buy on "hardy" species to start.
  2. Feed your fish a nutritious diet.
  3. Select tankmates carefully to help avoid aggression problems.
  4. Provide plenty of hiding places.
  5. Maintain optimal environmental conditions (good water quality, steady temperature, regular lighting cycles).
  6. Reduce the liklihood of sudden changes in environmental conditions.
  7. Capturing, moving or handling your fish should be done as infrequently as possible.
